Raipur, October 08, 2021. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has said that development of agriculture and welfare of farmers is the top priority of Chhattisgarh government. Indira Gandhi Agricultural University is playing an important role in the development of new technologies in the field of agriculture and making it accessible to the farmers. In promoting the export of agricultural products of Chhattisgarh, the phytosanitary lab starting from today in the Agricultural University will play an important role. Processing techniques developed by agricultural scientists will now be used in rural industrial parks in villages. The use of scientific research and technology is being promoted in the production of organic manure from cow dung, power generation and value addition in Gauthans.

Chief Minister Mr. Baghel was addressing the program today after dedicating the buildings and other infrastructure constructed at a cost of about Rs.30 crore under Indira Gandhi Agricultural University. On this occasion, with the inauguration of the newly constructed Krishi Vigyan Kendra building, Akti Biodiversity Museum, newly constructed Knowledge Center building and recording studio and phytosanitary laboratory at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University campus, he virtually inaugurated the newly constructed College of Horticulture, Jagdalpur and Agriculture College Raigarh, Boys. Inaugurated the hostel and girls hostel buildings and e-classrooms constructed in 16 agricultural colleges.

On this occasion, he also released the seeds of improved varieties of 8 crops including paddy, karat, soyabean, maize and raspberry and the technology to isolate protein and glucose from rice developed by the university. The Chief Minister said that the steps being taken by the Chhattisgarh government to give a new direction to agriculture in the state are getting more strength today. In line with Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘Gram Swaraj’, we are working towards making the villages self-supporting. Agricultural scientists have an important contribution in making villages self-reliant. He said that the technology for processing various agricultural products has been developed by the Agricultural University. It will be used in the Rural Industrial Park being set up in the villages. The processing of agricultural products and minor forest produce products will increase the income of the farmers and reach the people with pure agricultural products. Chhattisgarh will continue to be a leader in the quality and purity of these products.

The Chief Minister said that building a strong scientific infrastructure in the agriculture sector of the state has been one of our priorities. He said that the closer farmers and science come to each other, the faster the prosperity of the agriculture sector will grow. We have also signed MoUs with national level scientific organizations to improve the farming practices in the state, expand crop diversification, increase production and increase the income of farmers through value addition.

The Chief Minister said that recently Mission Millet has been started in Chhattisgarh to promote small cereal crops like Kodo-Kutki-Ragi. The contract has been signed with IIMR for this. Similarly, scientists are continuously harnessing the knowledge and research to promote activities ranging from value addition of minor forest produce to production of organic manure and electricity from cow dung in Gauthans. The work that agricultural scientists and farmers are doing together in Chhattisgarh is being appreciated at the national level today. Today Chhattisgarh state is showing the way to the whole country.
The Chief Minister said that about 24000 varieties of paddy, 1009 varieties of tinvra, 2000 varieties of linseed have been displayed in the Akti Biodiversity Museum which has been inaugurated today. A total of 30,878 varieties of different varieties have been displayed in this museum. Apart from this, more than 500 species of farmer brothers have been registered with the Government of India. These species are also on display in the Biodiversity Museum. These species will be used for the development of new species. Since the establishment of the University, a total of 154 species of different crops have been developed till date.
The Chief Minister said that our government is also working continuously to promote the export of agriculture-produce and agri-products of Chhattisgarh. Till now the facility of certification of agricultural products and food items of Chhattisgarh was not available, but after the launch of phytosanitary laboratory in the university, this facility will also be available to the farmers. After crop certification, they will be able to sell their produce and products abroad as well. He said that mobile apps have been prepared in the new knowledge center of Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, through which farmers can get new information and solve their problems. They will also be able to increase their income by taking information about the schemes of Chhattisgarh government.
Agriculture Minister Shri Ravindra Choubey said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel, Chhattisgarh is poised to become the most prosperous state in the field of agriculture. He said that about 25 to 30 thousand crore rupees from the state budget are being provided to the farmers through paddy procurement. The infrastructure developed in the Agricultural University will prove to be important for the farmers, scientists and students. The Vice Chancellor of Agricultural University, Dr. S.K. Patil gave the welcome address. Agricultural scientists, university professors and virtually students also participated in the program on this occasion.
