Raipur, 03 August 2021. Shimla of Chhattisgarh and the threat of Mainpat, famous for the cultivation of tau, has now reached across seven seas. The demand for tau flour produced in Mainpat has come from Dubai. 120 kg of flour will be supplied in the first batch. Tau flour is being produced by Bihan Mahila Kisan Products Company Limited, Surguja.
During the arrival of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at Mainpat Mahotsav, MoU has been signed between Bihan Mahila Kisan Utpadan Company Limited and Shivhare Ware Housing Bhopal. Tau flour is being marketed by Shivhare Ware Housing. In this episode, an order of 120 kg of tau flour has been received from Dubai. Which will be supplied soon.
Under the guidance of Collector Sanjeev Kumar Jha, women groups of Bihan Mahila Kisan Utpadan Company Limited are processing tau and producing flour, for which MoU has been signed for marketing. Taking a step in the field of dairy entrepreneurship, the group of women of Mainpat is successfully producing turmeric, chilli, spices, pickles, papad, mushroom etc.
It is worth mentioning here that the consumption of tau helps in the prevention of diseases like heart, sugar, BP and cancer. The abundance of minerals like zinc, manganese, copper etc. present in it makes it beneficial for the heart. The presence of soluble fiber in tau lowers cholesterol and is helpful in protecting the intestines from cancer. Research has also found a special carbohydrate in tau called phagopyritol, which effectively lowers blood sugar. The antioxidant routine bioflavonoid present in it regulates BP by keeping blood circulation healthy.
It is noteworthy that after the settlement of Tibetan refugees in the Mainpat area in the 60s, the cultivation of tau started as a form of pumping cultivation. Tau is also known as Okhla and Buckwheat. Tau farming has less water consumption and less maintenance and it is not attacked by any kind of pests and diseases nor does it harm cattle. In this way the production of tau is cheap, easy and profitable, which is motivating the farmers to cultivate it.
According to agricultural scientists, the production of tau per acre in Mainpat area is 8 to 10 quintals. There is a tradition of eating tau flour as a fruit food during fasting. Tau flour is used to make not only pudding but also many other delicious dishes like buckwheat dumplings, poori, cheela, parathas and even dosa and khichdi. Being rich in energy, it is used as a staple food in Eastern Europe.
