Raipur. 25 July 2024

In the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, it has been decided to complete the construction of Raipur’s incomplete sky-walk as per the predetermined drawing-design. For the much-awaited road widening between Sharda Chowk and Tatyapara Chowk in Raipur, a committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the collector and the work will be taken forward by examining the compensation and the need for land for widening. Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Public Works Minister Shri Arun Sao, Raipur MP Shri Brijmohan Agarwal, former MP Shri Sunil Soni, Raipur West MLA Shri Rajesh Munat, Raipur Rural MLA Shri Motilal Sahu, former MLA Shri Nandkumar Sahu, Shri Shrichand Sundarani and other public representatives of the city were also present in the meeting chaired by the Chief Minister.

During the discussion in the meeting, information was given about the construction of Sky-Walk that on the instructions of the then Chief Minister, the pedestrians walking on Shastri Chowk were counted. At that time in October-2016, it was found that 14 thousand pedestrians walk on Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital Chowk and 27 thousand pedestrians walk on Shastri Chowk. During the re-counting in May-2019, the number of pedestrians walking on Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital Chowk was 25 thousand 095 and on Shastri Chowk it was 35 thousand 920, which was more than the number of pedestrians walking in the earlier count. A suggestion committee was formed by the previous government in the state regarding the incomplete sky-walk. The suggestion committee also suggested that the construction work of the sky-walk be completed. In the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, after detailed discussion regarding the construction of sky-walk and the consent of Deputy Chief Minister and Departmental Minister Shri Arun Saw, it was unanimously decided to complete it as per the previously approved drawing-design.

In the meeting, information was given regarding the widening of the road from Sharda Chowk to Tatyapara Chowk that a four-lane road has been constructed from Jayastambh Chowk to Sharda Chowk. Also, a four-lane road has been constructed from Tatyapara Chowk towards Azad Chowk. Due to the absence of a four-lane of only 510 meters length between Sharda Chowk and Tatyapara Chowk, there is a lot of pressure of four-wheelers and two-wheelers every day, which causes a lot of trouble to the common people. This is a long pending demand of Raipur. After the widening of the roads on both sides, it is necessary to widen the remaining part in the middle. After detailed discussion, it was decided in the meeting that the road between Shastri Chowk and Tatyapara Chowk should be widened from Sharda Chowk to Tatyapara Chowk in the same design and width as the road widening from Tatyapara Chowk to Azad Chowk, so that uniformity is maintained on the route.

In the meeting, it was also decided to constitute a committee under the chairmanship of Raipur Collector. This committee will present within 30 days the actual land to be acquired and freed from encroachment from Sharda Chowk to Tatyapara Chowk, how many landowners and encroachers are being affected in acquisition or displacement, complete details of populated (government) land and private land (including property) and options and recommendations for providing the necessary land for widening. This committee will be constituted by the Urban Administration and Development Department.
