Raipur: Congress leaders protest against inflation by eating dry bread

In the capital Raipur, Congress leaders staged a unique protest by eating dry bread. Many workers including Raipur West MLA Vikas Upadhyay gathered near the collectorate. Kept the gas cylinder in front and protested by keeping dry bread in the plate.

Slogans were raised against the Center regarding inflation. The Congress termed tomatoes and other vegetables out of reach of the common man due to rising prices.

Congress leaders arrived with plastic plates, stoves, cylinders and wooden planks. He kept the cylinder and vegetables in front of him while sitting on the road. Then started eating dry bread kept in the plate. Symbolically taking tomatoes in his hand in between, he told them about the impact of inflation and told them away from the buying power of the common man. On seeing Congress leaders including MLA Upadhyay eating dry roti, people kept stopping their vehicles and watching them.Parliamentary Secretary and MLA Vikas Upadhyay said that the rising inflation has plagued the common man. The rates of food items including vegetables, petrol, diesel, domestic gas cylinders are increasing day by day, in protest against which today we are protesting against the BJP government at the Centre. He said that today tomato is Rs 160 per kg, while the prices of okra, parwal and bitter gourd have gone up to Rs 80-100. He blamed the policies of the Center.

Parliamentary Secretary Upadhyay asked how many promises were made when the Bharatiya Janata Party was in opposition. Then the prices of gas cylinders used to increase even by Rs 10, so today’s Union Ministers also used to come and sit on the road. He blamed the wrong policies of the central government for this inflation.
