In Chhattisgarh, on the initiative of Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel, arrangements have been made for free treatment to poor families living in slum areas of urban areas. Through the Chief Minister Urban Slum Health Scheme, till now 57 lakh 319 people have been treated by the medical team of Mobile Medical Unit by reaching near the homes of the people in the slum settlements. Under the scheme, mobile medical units equipped with doctors, paramedical teams, medical equipment and medicines are now reaching the slums in urban areas of the entire state and providing health facilities to the people. So far, pathology tests of 15 lakh 32 thousand 886 patients have been done through this scheme. Besides, free medicines have also been given to more than 49 lakh 24 thousand 193 patients.
Under the Chief Minister Urban Slum Health Scheme, run by the Urban Administration and Development Department of the Government of Chhattisgarh, till now 74 thousand 693 camps have been set up in slum areas of 169 urban bodies of the state, people have been given free check-up and treatment and medicines have been given. Urban Administration and Development Minister Dr. Shivkumar Dahria has instructed the departmental officers to provide free medicines to the people living in cramped settlements and other needy areas of urban areas after health check-up.
It is noteworthy that to provide health facilities to the people living in slums of 14 municipal corporation areas of the state, Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel had started the first phase of the Chief Minister Urban Slum Health Scheme on 01 November 2020. Under this, 60 mobile medical units started going to slum areas for health check-up of people, treatment and distribution of medicines. On March 31, 2022, it was expanded to the urban body areas of the entire state and 60 more new mobile medical units were started. On July 1, 2023, 5 mobile medical units have been started by the Chief Minister for the treatment of people in slum areas. More mobile medical units will be started in cities to provide treatment to needy people including slum dwellers.
