Chief Minister-ster of Co-al an-d Mi-ning- Sh-ri P-ralh-ad Joshi, requesting him to direct the SECL officers to supply coal to the steel producers of Chhattisgarh on a continuous basis. The Chief Ministe-r has said that at present 60 lakh tonnes of coal is bein-g supplied to the steel manufacturers of Chhattisgarh state by SECL per month , while their monthly requirement is about 15 million tonnes. The decision of SECL to stop the supply of coal to the steel producing industries of Chhattisgarh from the month of August will cause a serious crisis on the economy of the state.

In the letter, the Chief Minister has said that more than 150 million tonnes of coal is produced annually in the state of Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh ranks second in the country in coal production. Most of the coal produced in the state is sent to other states. Chhattisgarh is also one of the leading states of the country in the field of steel production. Apart from many big steel producing units, there are hundreds of small units in the state, which are the basis of livelihood of lakhs of people. In the last about 6 months, due to the crisis of coal in the country, the operation of passenger trains of the state has been stopped for several months due to sending the coal produced in Chhattisgarh state to other parts of the country on priority basis. is facing innumerable difficulties.

The Chief Minister has said, “Due to the coal crisis, it has been decided to stop the supply of coal by SECL to the steel producers and other units (except power plants) of the state from the month of August, due to which there is a serious crisis on the economy of the state.” Will go Except the power plant, there will be a situation of lock-down in all other units. The Chief Minister further wrote in the letter that “Steel makers of the state are currently being given 60 lakh tonnes of coal per month by SECL, while their monthly requirement is about 15 million tonnes. You will agree that it would be a very unfortunate decision for the leading coal producing state of the country not to supply coal to its small scale industries.

The Chief Minister has requested the Union Minister of Coal and Mines to direct the officers of SECL to continue uninterrupted supply of coal as per the requirement of the steel producers of the state so that serious economic crisis can be avoided in the state.
