Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai has paid his respects to Amar Shaheed Gend Singh on his martyrdom day on 20 January. Remembering Amar Shaheed Gend Singh who sacrificed his life for freedom, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that much before the country’s first freedom struggle in 1857, Gend Singh had raised his voice against slavery and exploitation by the British. Shaheed Gend Singh, a leader who fought for the rights of the tribal brothers and sisters of Bastar, was hanged in front of the palace of Paralkot on 20 January 1825. Gend Singh was martyred for the protection of his self-respect and motherland. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the unforgettable sacrifice made by Gend Singh, the hero of the liberation movement of Paralkot, for the liberation of the motherland will continue to inspire all of us to sacrifice our all for the service of the country.
