Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated the Ophthalmology Wing ‘Ambak’ at Jagdalpur District Hospital (Maharani Hospital) this evening. Renovating the building of the Ophthalmology Department of the district hospital at a cost of Rs 35 lakh, new machines have been installed in the operation theater and facilities for the patients have been increased here. ‘Ambak’ has facilities for various types of eye operations with two specialist doctors. There are 20 beds available in the IPD here. Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Shri T.S. Singhdeo and Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Kawasi Lakhma also attended the launch event.

After the inauguration of the Ophthalmology Wing at Jagdalpur District Hospital, Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel met the patients undergoing treatment at the IPD here and interacted with them and inquired about their health and eyesight. He also presented fruits to the patients. The Chief Minister also saw the fully equipped operation theater here. Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Rekhchand Jain, Chairman of Bastar Development Authority Mr. Lakheshwar Baghel, MLA Mr. Rajman Benzam and Mr. Vikram Mandavi, President of CREDA Mr. Mithilesh Swarnakar, Chairman of Indravati Basin Development Authority Mr. Rajeev Sharma and Mayor Mrs. Safira Sahu and many public representatives and officers. were also present during this time.

Cataract operation of 1052 patients so far this year in Jagdalpur district hospital

On an average, 140-160 OPDs and 25-30 IPDs are being done daily by the Department of Ophthalmology of Jagdalpur District Hospital under the National Program for Prevention of Blindness (NPCB) under Cataract Free Bastar Campaign. From April to July this year, a total of 5745 OPD patients were treated and 1052 cataract patients were successfully operated free of cost. Under the National Program for the Prevention of Blindness (NPCB), the eyes of 5439 students have been examined so far in the current financial year in various schools of the district. Free spectacles have also been provided to 52 students with visual impairment.
