Raipur, 02 July 2021.   Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has appealed farmers of the state to use vermi and super compost in their fields to create a healthy and clean environment for the future generations. He has said that he is making this appeal as a farmer himself.

In his message to the farmers, Mr. Baghel said that the input cost of agriculture is going higher day by day due to ever-increasing price of chemical fertilizers. Profit returns are becoming lesser as compared to the investment cost. Indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is reducing fertility of the land and poisoning the agricultural products. Not only does this affect the health of consumers but also harms the environment. With the aim to solve these, State Government is promoting organic farming in the state. Under Godhan Nyay Yojana, cow dung is being procured for Rs 2 per kg, which is being utilized by women of self-help groups to manufacture vermi compost and super compost.

Chief Minister Mr. Baghel said that the arrangements for sale of Vermi Compost and Super Compost have been made with the help of societies. Vermi compost has been made available to the farmers at the rate of Rs.10/kg only while super-compost is available at Rs.6 per kg. He further said – “A reputed company is selling vermicompost fertilizer at the rate of Rs 64 per kg, whereas we, in Chhattisgarh, have made the high quality fertilizers available to the farmers at much lower price, almost 6 to 10 times lesser than the former.”

Chief Minister Mr. Baghel further said in his message that use of Vermi Compost and Super Compost for farming enhances the fertility of the land, leads to better quality yield and also reduces the agricultural input cost, besides preventing soil erosion. It also improved the water holding capacity of the soil. The food grains, fruits and vegetables produced with organic manure are of better nutritional quality. Organic products get a good price in the market. This compost prevents the loss of nutrients from the soil and reduces the incidence of pest and disease in crops.
