Honorable Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court Mr. Ramesh Sinha made a surprise inspection of Central Jail located at Bilaspur today. During this, he inspected both the men’s prison and the women’s prison located in the jail. There, while interacting with the prisoners, he inquired about the basic facilities and arrangements like health, treatment, medicines etc. Information about the food and cleanliness given to them was also obtained from the prisoners. Along with this, he took information from the undertrial prisoners that for which crimes he was imprisoned. The women’s prison was also inspected. He praised the cleanliness there. Instructed to prepare a list of women prisoners living in jail with children. Information of prisoners was also taken for action in connection with Section-432 of CrPC. The Chief Justice inquired from the Jail Superintendent about the capacity of the jail and the number of prisoners. He told that the capacity of Central Jail Bilaspur is 2290 inmates. At present, the total number of prisoners in the jail is 3153, out of which the number of male prisoners is 2946 and the number of female prisoners is 207. On this, the Honorable Chief Justice directed the Jail Superintendent, Central Jail, Bilaspur to quickly prepare a list of undertrial prisoners in minor crimes. The Chief Justice Mr. Sinha inquired about the legal services being provided to the prisoners in the Central Jail, Bilaspur and directed that the prisoners should be given the real knowledge of the law in simple language so that their lives improve in the future and they do not turn towards crime. It is noteworthy that this was the third consecutive day of surprise inspection by the Honorable Chief Justice. Registrar General of the High Court Mr. Arvind Kumar Verma, District and Sessions Judge, Bilaspur Mr. Ashok Kumar Sahu, District Magistrate Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Superintendent of Police Mr. Santosh Singh were present in the surprise inspection. And the additional registrar cum principal private secretary to the judge. Subramaniam were also involved. It is to be known that Honorable Chief Justice Mr. Ramesh Sinha has spent only 03 months in the Chhattisgarh High Court, during the said tenure of 03 months only the District Courts Raipur Bilaspur, Koker, Jagdalpur Dantewada, Korba, Katghora, Mungeli and Janjgir-Champa After inspecting all the basic works have been directed to be rectified at the earliest.
