Review meeting on criminal laws chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai met Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah today at North Block in New Delhi. In the meeting chaired by Shri Shah, the implementation of three new criminal laws in the state was reviewed. Along with this, there was also discussion on the eradication of Naxalism, overall development of Bastar and strengthening the security and justice system in the state. Many senior officials of the Union Home Ministry and the state government including Chhattisgarh Home Minister Shri Vijay Sharma were present in the meeting.

The Indian Judicial Code, Indian Civil Defence Code and Indian Evidence Act were discussed in the meeting. Along with this, the implementation and current status of various new provisions related to police, prisons, courts, prosecution and forensics were reviewed.

Giving information in the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that administrative and technical preparations have been completed to effectively implement the new criminal laws in Chhattisgarh. 27 types of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and guidelines have been prepared and implemented in the state. Along with this, about 37,385 policemen have been trained. Courts, police stations and jails have been equipped with e-evidence and video conferencing systems. So far 53,981 FIRs have been registered in the state under the new laws, out of which challans have been presented in about 50% of the cases.

In the meeting, a special strategy was also discussed for a permanent solution to the Naxal problem. The Chief Minister said that in the operations conducted in the state in recent months, many wanted Naxalites have been killed, arrested or have surrendered. Efforts like Niyad Nelanar Yojana, Bastar Olympics, Women Safety Centre, and development of homestay and tourism infrastructure in tribal areas have had a significant impact in connecting the youth to the mainstream.

The Chief Minister also informed that the state government is committed to making Chhattisgarh Naxal-free by the year 2026 and work is going on at a fast pace towards developing Bastar as a major tourist center of India.

Chief Minister Shri Sai also assured that Chhattisgarh will follow the guidelines of the Central Government with full sincerity and will play a leading role in effectively implementing this legal reform initiative across the country.

Praising the work done so far by the Chhattisgarh government regarding the implementation of new criminal laws, the Home Minister stressed on 100 percent implementation of the new laws in the state soon.

Home Minister Amit Shah expected coordination and promptness from Chhattisgarh and said that the aim of the new laws is to make the judicial process simpler, faster and more people-oriented.

Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain, Director General of Police Mr. Arun Dev Gautam, Additional Chief Secretary Mr. Manoj Kumar Pingua, Inspector General of Police Mr. Sushil Dwivedi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Subodh Kumar Singh, Secretary Mr. Rahul Bhagat, Principal Secretary Law Mr. Rajneesh Shrivastava, Secretary Home, Mrs. Neha Champawat and other officers also attended the meeting.
