Approval from central government
Raipur, 17 May 2020.In the state of Chhattisgarh, a ‘Reading and Writing Campaign’ will be conducted to make the untouchables literate. Inexperiments will be taught under the campaign. Government of India has approved the “Reading and Writing Campaign” to make the state’s literates literate. This campaign will be given priority in the aspirational districts set by the Central Government. A letter to this effect has been sent by the Department of School Education and Literacy, New Delhi under the Ministry of Human Resource Development to the Principal Secretary, School Education Department, Chhattisgarh.
While giving this information, the officials of the School Education Department said that a radical change has been made in this new scheme of “Reading and writing campaign”. The campaign will be based on volunteer teachers. The state of Chhattisgarh currently has 10 aspiring districts. This program of basic literacy in these districts will be conducted in both urban and rural areas.
It is noteworthy that the state has been given a target to make two lakh 50 thousand people literate in a year. It is to be known that earlier the Saakshar Bharat program was closed in March 2018, in which there were remaining unprotected in the state. In this new scheme, apart from school college students, other volunteers including NCC, NSS, Nehru Yuva Kendra will be encouraged.
Like other bodies of the School Education Department of the literacy program, academic support will be done through the State Academic Research and Training Council at the state level and DIET at the district level. The e-content, e-books and video lectures will be developed at the state level by the Bastet Center for Literacy (SCL). The mobile phone, app will be free for learners and volunteer instructors.
On the lines of the State Literacy Mission Authority at the state level, the District Literacy Mission Authority will now be formed in the districts. Committees will be formed at block level, urban body level for successful implementation of the scheme. This campaign will be conducted in four-month cycles, in which the assessment of the learners will be conducted 3 times a year by the National Institute of Open Schooling.
