Raipur: Chhattisgarh ranks first in the country in providing employment in MGNREGA: more than 107 percent work against target so far

Record number of jobs in the state since the implementation of MNREGA, 16.07 crore man-days of employment created so far this year

Raipur. 13 March 2021.  Chhattisgarh ranks first in the country in giving employment against the target under MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act). In the current financial year 2020-21, against the target of creating 15 crore man-days of employment sanctioned by the Government of India, 16 crore six lakh 84 thousand man-days of employment have been created here so far. Since the implementation of MNREGA, this year a new record has been set to provide maximum employment in the state. More than 107 percent employment has been provided to MNREGA workers against the target set for this year so far, with more than two weeks left for the completion of the financial year. Currently, MNREGA works are progressing vigorously across the state.

Chhattisgarh tops the country with more than 107 percent completion in implementation of MNREGA. West Bengal is at second, third, fourth and fifth position with 105 percent, Assam and Bihar 104-104 percent and Odisha with 103 percent completion. Since the inception of MNREGA in the year 2006-07, the state has given the maximum number of man-days employment this year. Ten crore 14 lakh, eight crore 86 lakh, 11 crore 99 lakh, 13 crore 86 lakh and 13 crore 62 lakh man days of employment have been provided to the needy in the last five years from the year 2015-16 to 2019-20 respectively. In the current financial year, wages of Rs 2617 crore 88 lakh have been paid to MNREGA workers from April -2020 to February -2021.

 

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel and Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development Shri T.S. Singhdeo has congratulated departmental officers-employees and Panchayat representatives for creating record number of man-days for providing employment to villagers. He said that despite the lock-down due to Kovid-19, the villagers got a large number of direct employment due to the preparatory work under MNREGA. MNREGA works have played an important role in keeping the rural economy dynamic even under adverse circumstances. He made the secretary of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Mr. Prasanna R. And congratulating the MNREGA commissioner Mr. Mohammad Kaiser Abdulhaq and his team, hoping that with the awareness of Panchayat representatives and the activeness of the MNREGA team, the state will achieve new achievements under MNREGA going forward.

Bilaspur district is at the forefront of employment generation against the target set for the current financial year in the state. So far, more than 131 percent of man-days have been given against the target. 125 percent in Gorella-Pendra-Marwahi, 119 percent in Kanker, 118 percent in Surguja, 117 percent in Janjgir-Champa, 115-115 percent in Durg and Jashpur, 110 percent in Raigad, 109 percent in Balod, Dantewada and 108 in Korea. -108 percent, 107-107 percent in Bemetara, Kondagaon and Raipur, 106 percent in Mahasamund, 105-105 percent in Balodabazar-Bhatapara and Korba, 104-104 percent in Kabirdham, Bijapur and Mungeli, 102 percent in Gariaband, Dhamtari and Sukma The target has been achieved in 101–101 percent, 100 percent in Balrampur-Ramanujganj, 98–98 percent in Rajnandgaon and Bastar, 96 percent in Surajpur and 95 percent in Narayanpur district.

 

Chhattisgarh had approved 13.5 million man-days of employment for Chhattisgarh in the budget of 2020-21. At the beginning of the financial year, large-scale MNREGA works were started across the state to provide employment to the villagers on a large scale and to strengthen the rural economy in the period of nationwide lock-down implemented due to Corona epidemic. As a result, 66 percent of this target was completed in the first three months. In view of this, the state government had requested to increase the target of employment generation under MNREGA from 13.5 million man-days to 15 crore man-days for the current financial year. On the basis of continuous good works of MNREGA in Chhattisgarh, the Union Ministry of Rural Development has approved the revised target of 15 crore man-days employment.
