Raipur: Chhattisgarh is the first state to buy cow dung and convert it into profit: Shri Bhupesh Baghel

Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel has said that Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country to purchase cow dung as well as the first state to convert cow dung into profit. He said that along with preparing vermi compost from cow dung, work should be done to make it more profitable. The possibilities of power generation from cow dung should be studied, efforts should be made to increase economic activities here along with making the Gauthans self-supporting in terms of fodder. He said that the tendency of people towards Gauthans is increasing in the state, Gauthans should be made more strong. The collector should constantly review the need for maintenance, repair and construction works of Gauthans and get the work done as needed.
Chief Minister to transfer the amount in lieu of purchase of cow dung, amount of dividend to women self-help groups and Rs 5 crore 33 lakh to Gauthan committees under Godhan Nyay Yojana at his residence office here today. Later he was addressing the program. In the program, the Chief Minister transferred an amount of Rs. 1 crore 74 lakh online in the form of 27th installment in lieu of the cow dung purchased in the account of cattle owners and collectors under Godhan Nyay Yojana. Including this amount, an amount of Rs 100 crore 82 lakh has been paid to the cattle owners and collectors for the purchase of cow dung. On this occasion, he paid Rs. 1 crore 41 lakh as dividend to self-help groups and Rs. 2 crore 18 lakh to Gauthan Samitis.
A total amount of Rs.21 crore 42 lakh has been paid to Self-Help Groups as dividend and Rs.32 crore 94 lakh to Gauthan Samitis. A total amount of Rs 54 crore 36 lakh has been paid to self-help groups and Gauthan committees so far. More than 1 lakh 74 thousand cattle farmers and collectors have been benefited from Godhan Nyay Yojana. So far 50 lakh quintals of cow dung has been purchased.
The Chief Minister said that people are moving towards starting other profitable activities besides vermi compost from cow dung. In some places, the work of supplying gas to homes by preparing cow dung in Gauthan has also started. He told the officials that the possibilities of generating electricity from cow dung should be studied. If this work is possible, it will be a great achievement. The Chief Minister also said that Chhattisgarh Telghani, Iron Craftsman, Leather Craftsman and Rajakkar Board has been constituted by the state government. The activities of these boards should also be started in Gothan, so that people can get employment opportunities. The Chief Minister said that the operation of Gauthans is a continuous process, hence the construction in Gauthans, Maintenance and repairs etc. need to be done continuously. All the collectors should include this subject in the weekly time-limit meeting and review the activities conducted in the Gauthans continuously. He said that where Gothan committees are not active, other people should be given opportunity after discussing with public representatives, collectors and chief executive officers of Zilla Panchayat.
The Chief Minister said that the number of Gauthans is increasing continuously in the State and the popularity of Gauthan and Godhan Nyay Yojana is increasing in urban areas also. He said that the number of self-supporting Gauthans is also increasing in the state. The number of self-supporting Gauthans has increased to 1634 in a year. This means that people’s interest in these schemes is increasing. Mr. Baghel said that Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country to purchase cow dung at Rs. 2 a kg. Along with this, success has also been achieved in converting cow dung into a commodity in Chhattisgarh. A large number of farmers are self-motivated using vermi compost prepared from cow dung. Where organic farming is being promoted, At the same time, about 64 thousand women of more than 9 thousand self-help groups engaged in the work of making vermi compost in Gauthans and working in other economic activities have got employment and new sources of income. The use of vermi compost will improve the quality of vegetables, grains and fruits and they will also be beneficial from the health point of view.
The Chief Minister congratulated and congratulated the officers-employees, public representatives and villagers for the successful operation of Godhan Nyay Yojana and Gauthans. He said that many officers have come to Chhattisgarh from other states, but by taking keen interest, they understood the circumstances of Chhattisgarh and contributed in making the schemes successful. Referring to his meeting with the members of the Agriculture Standing Committee of Parliament on 7th September, Mr. Baghel said that he showed interest in Godhan Nyay Yojana and Gauthans. When they were informed that 10 lakh quintals of vermi compost has been made from cow dung and farmers are also using it, the committee members said that this will also improve the soil health. Committee members bought paddy on support price, Also took interest in Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana. The committee also agreed with Chhattisgarh’s plan to prepare ethanol from paddy. The Chief Minister said that efforts should be made to make Gauthans self-sufficient in the matter of fodder, so that the animals do not stray, this will make it easier in animal management.
Agriculture Minister Shri Ravindra Choubey said that Godhan Nyay Yojana of Chhattisgarh is being discussed all over the country. Four committees of Parliament, including the Agriculture Standing Committee of Parliament, have appreciated the scheme and said that it should be implemented across the country. He said that the scheme of Rural Industrial Park to provide self-employment to the people in Gauthans is unprecedented. It is being accepted in the country. He said that more than Rs 100 crore has been paid to the dung collectors in one year of the implementation of the scheme. Along with this, 68 crore vermi compost prepared from cow dung has also been sold. One and a half lakh farmers have taken vermi compost from the societies. This scheme will prove to be a revolutionary scheme in the coming times.
Agriculture Production Commissioner and Secretary, Agriculture Department, Dr. M. Geeta informed in the program that the number of approved Gauthans in the state has increased to 10112 and the number of Gauthans manufactured has increased to 6112. He informed that the work of planting fodder in 9732 acres of pasture land of 4495 Gauthans has been completed. He also informed that about 80 thousand vermi tanks have been manufactured in Gauthans, out of which 7 lakh 68 thousand quintals of vermi compost and 3 lakh 37 thousand quintals of super compost have been produced. He was informed that 76 percent Vermi Compost and 45 percent Super Compost prepared in Gauthans have been sold so far. Dr. Geeta informed that 64 thousand 317 women of 9 thousand 153 self-help groups engaged in various economic activities in Gauthans have received an income of Rs.39 crore 77 lakhs since the start of the scheme.
