Raipur : Chhattisgarh Food Minister demands inclusion of Sarguja and other districts into central ‘City Gas Distribution project’; urges Centre to fix rates for producing ethanol, green energy

Chhattisgarh Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Amarjeet Singh Bhagat today attended National Conclave of Emerging Opportunities in Natural Gas sector, New Delhi and demanded inclusion of Sarguja and other districts into the ‘City Gas Distribution project’.

Addressing the conclave organized by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas at the Convention Hall in Hotel Ashoka, the minister said the state is ready to work shoulder to shoulder with the Central government to promote use of natural gas. He said that Bilaspur and Korba districts of Chhattisgarh has been added into the City Gas Distribution project and urged the Centre to include Sarguja district into the project. He said more and more people will be benefitted from the project if it is extended to Sarguja district as it is a rain harvest, tribal dominated area, where people are into farming. He added that the scheme will bring in investment of Rs 800 crore in the state and provide employment opportunities.

Mr. Bhagat said that Chhattisgarh government is ready to cooperate and give clearances and suggested that main agencies should also coordinate and meet with the state officials. The minister said that each state wants to have the benefit of this scheme. Mentioning that Chhattisgarh had bumper production of paddy which is more than the consumption, the minister said that the state wants to move towards green energy and produce petroleum and ethanol. He urged the Centre and the ministry to fix the rates for the same so that Chhattisgarh can move ahead.
