Review meeting related to road safety scenario concluded

Under the chairmanship of Justice Shri Abhay Manohar Sapre, Chairman Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety and in the presence of Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, a review meeting regarding road safety of Chhattisgarh state was held at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan here today. In the meeting, the work being done for road safety in Chhattisgarh was reviewed in detail. Justice Shri Sapre talked about Chhattisgarh state becoming a model state in terms of road safety. He termed the road accidents happening every day in the country as worrying. He has asked the officials to do all the necessary work regarding smooth traffic management.
    In the meeting, Justice Shri Sapre expressed concern over the deaths of people in road accidents happening every day in the country and said that proper efforts should be made to prevent road accidents. Giving examples of countries like Japan, Germany, China etc., he said that despite millions of road accidents occurring in these countries, the number of deaths is very less. He also talked about following the methods adopted by these countries regarding easy traffic management. He said that we have to understand the suffering of the common man. Only the family can understand the pain of a member whose death occurs in a road accident. He said that drivers of trucks, buses, cars, bikes, e-rickshaws should drive following the traffic rules. Never drive at high speed or under the influence of alcohol. He laid emphasis on wearing helmet while riding a bike and seat belt while driving a car and talked about adopting it in practice also. Inclusion of road safety related course in the school curriculum in the state of Chhattisgarh was described as a good step. Expressed satisfaction over the work being done by Education, Health, Transport, Police, Public Works, Urban Administration and Panchayat and Rural Development departments related to road safety in the state related to smooth traffic and public awareness. Emphasis was laid on continuing the encouraging work being done in the state regarding road safety and on getting the related departmental work done on high priority. He said that this year the remedial and corrective works done by various departments of the state to prevent road accidents will be reviewed. Boosting the morale of departmental officers, he said that officers should do better work in the field of road safety for their own self-satisfaction. During the review of department-wise work done related to road safety, the Justice has given instructions to take immediate corrective action in black spots and junctions within the time limit.
In the meeting, Chairman of Inter-Departmental Lead Agency (Road Safety) Mr. Sanjay Sharma informed through presentation that the Education Department has completed the work of revising the lessons related to road safety in the courses from class 1st to 10th, which will be published in the upcoming academic session. Will be implemented from. In the same sequence, he said that more accidents are taking place in rural areas than in urban areas between 3 pm to 9 pm in the state. Among the above mentioned accidents, maximum deaths have been caused by two-wheelers. The main reason for which is driving a two-wheeler without a helmet. On this, the Justice focused on the most accident prone 07 districts namely Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Korba, Balodabazar and Rajnandgaon and continuously reviewed the causes of the accidents occurring in the said districts and took immediate action on their diagnosis and timely treatment of the persons injured in road accidents. Instructions have been given to soon complete the work of the incomplete trauma centers of the state for treatment. Due to continuous work done for road safety in the state, there has been a decrease in road accidents in the state during the month of January 2024 as compared to the month of January 2023. There has also been a significant reduction in the number of deaths and injuries in road accidents. In the meeting, Secretary and Co-Commissioner Transport Shri S. Prakash, Secretary of Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Shri Rajesh Singh Rana, Additional Director General of Police (Traffic), Shri Pradeep Gupta, Commissioner Raipur Dr. Sanjay Alang along with School Education Department, National Highway Authority of India, Public Works, Health, Transport, General Administration. , Senior officials of Police, Urban Administration and Development Department participated.
