Raipur, 28 September 2021. Changes in the weather in recent years and the conditions arising out of it are becoming a cause of concern for the farmers. Indiscriminate exploitation of ground water level has led to a decrease in the water level. The Government of Chhattisgarh is constructing water storage structures on a large scale for rainwater harvesting and increasing the ground water level, while Narva scheme has been started for the rejuvenation of rivers and streams.
In the first phase, the work of rejuvenation of 40 rainy drains was taken up in all the development blocks of Bastar district. Water storage structures were constructed in the command area of these drains, due to which these drains have been converted into perennial drains along with the increase in the water level in the surrounding areas. The total length of the flow area of these 40 drains is 624.65 km. Is. Farmers are getting irrigation facility in more than 11 thousand hectare area around these drains.
The initial results of the work being done to rejuvenate the drains are positive and encouraging. After treatment of Narva, 8.4 percent increase has been observed in the average ground water level of Narva catchment and command area. After the monsoon season, the villagers and farmers are now getting enough water to plant another crop. With the availability of irrigation facilities, farmers are taking kharif as well as rabi crops.
Under the Jhodi Jatan Abhiyan, the people of the village have selected 66 Narva. For the revival of these drains, 5 thousand 423 works have been approved, out of which 2 thousand 504 works have been completed. Also, for the construction of water storage structures around 211 Narwa, about 4,106 works costing Rs 27 crore 56 lakh have been approved, out of which 2,346 works have been completed by spending about Rs 9.76 crore.
