On the initiative of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, a drug-free campaign will soon be launched in the state. A detailed discussion was held today to prepare an action plan on various aspects including the participation of social and voluntary organizations in the comprehensive public awareness campaign for de-addiction. A consultation meeting related to de-addiction was organized by the Social Welfare Department at a private hotel in the capital.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Swarananda, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi, WHO representative Mr. Uraya Nag and UNICEF representative Mr. Pankaj Nair, AIIMS Professor Dr. Yatan Pal Balhara and other experts. It may be noted that the Chief Minister has given instructions to link social organizations with the anti-drug campaign in the state and run a special campaign by setting up a nodal agency for public awareness among the people.

In this meeting called to prepare an action plan for de-addiction campaign, AIIMS Professor Dr. Yatan Pal Balhara said that it is necessary to connect with people on a large scale to reach the general public for de-addiction. To reach the children, the education department will have to make a comprehensive action plan. Chhattisgarh government is working in this direction better than other states. Addiction emerges as a social, family and personal problem. A person addicted to drugs needs to work continuously to get rid of the addiction. Everyone has to discharge their responsibility. Ms. Swarananda, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi, Mr. Uraya Nag, representative of WHO and Mr. Pankaj Nair, representative of UNICEF praised the work being done by the state government for drug addiction.

In the meeting, the experts said that not only the government, but social and voluntary organizations need to work in coordination to bring public awareness for drug addiction. To build a healthy society, it is necessary to organize and organize the society. This will be possible only when the mental and physical health of the people in the society is better. Experts said that it is necessary to keep the new generation, especially the youth, away from drug addiction. There is a need to run a massive campaign for drug eradication at the government and private level. Intoxication destroys not only the body but also the family and the society.

In the meeting, Secretary of Social Welfare Department Mr. Bhuvanesh Yadav said that School Education Department, Social Welfare Department and Panchayat Department can play an important role in bringing awareness against drugs. Along with this, the Women and Child Development Department can also take the help of self-help group women and Anganwadi centers for de-addiction. Mr. Sandeep Patel of the Indian Police Service introduced various success stories related to getting rid of drug addiction. He said that intoxication is the main reason for most of the crimes and accidents. Police and UNICEF are jointly running ‘Nijat Abhiyan’ in Bilaspur district to eradicate drug addiction.
