Raipur: Attractive lamps of Tumba crafts attracting people: Training given by Handicrafts Development Board in Bastar Zone

Raipur, 24 August 2020. The demand for Tumba Lamps being made by the handicrafts artists of Chhattisgarh is increasing in the markets. These attractive lamps of various sizes and types of Tumba are now becoming the home and bedroom of the people. These adorable and attractive lamps are being constructed by tribal craftsmen of Narayanpur and Bastar districts. In view of the increasing demand in its market, the handicrafts board has now taken the initiative to start manufacturing by training it on a large scale. Crafts artists on the dried tumbe carve beautiful creations of various shapes and sizes and give them a captivating and attractive look. Efforts are being made by the Handicrafts Board to revive this handicraft and provide employment to rural youth.

It is noteworthy that Village Industries Minister Guru Rudrakumar appreciated the training program conducted by the Chhattisgarh Handicrafts Development Board to promote Tumba craft. He has said that as per the intention of the state government, there is a continuous effort by the state government for the promotion and protection of handicraftsmen. Board officials said that training will be imparted from August 24 to make attractive decorative items from traditional items in village Usaribeda of Lohandiguda development block of Bastar district. During this training, 20 youth of scheduled tribe category will be given intensive training for three months. During this time he will also be given a scholarship of Rs 3000 per month. The facility of exhibition-cum-marketing for decorative materials prepared during training will also be provided by the board.
It is worth mentioning that for the first time in the state, large scale lamp manufacturing has been started with Tumba craft. Tumba lamps made as study table lamps are being well liked and are being sold hands-on. Tumba craft has been a center of special attraction for the people in the handicrafts fairs held in Chhattisgarh. Tumba craft is also being expanded to other areas through training and marketing facilities by the Handicrafts Development Board.
