State Government’s ambitious ‘Godhan Nyay Yojana’ gets SKOCH Gold Award

Raipur, 21 March 2021. Chhattisgarh Government’s ambitious ‘Godhan Nyay Yojana’ has been awarded the ‘SKOCH Gold Award’ for outstanding contribution to environmental protection and sustainable development. Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has congratulated and extended best wishes to the people of Chhattisgarh and officials-employees of the Department of Agriculture Development, Farmer Welfare and Biotechnology of the State Government for this magnificent achievement. The award was conferred by Skoch Group on 20 March in New Delhi to the Godhan Nyay Yojana of Chhattisgarh. It is noteworthy that on the initiative of Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel, Godhan Nyay Yojana has been started on July 20 on Hareli Parva. Under this scheme, cow dung is being purchased from cattle rearers and villagers at the rate of 2 rupees per kg. Vermi compost is being prepared by the women self-help groups in Gothan from the purchased cow dung. Since the inception of the scheme, 88 crore rupees have been paid to the cattle rearers and villagers in lieu of the cow dung purchased so far.
Chief Minister while congratulating the people of Chhattisgarh and officials of the Agriculture Department said that the Godhan Nyay Yojana of Chhattisgarh is not only strengthening the rural economy, but is also getting recognition at the national level through award. The Agriculture Affairs Committee of the Lok Sabha has also appreciated the scheme and recommended to implement it in other states as well.

Godhan Nyay Yojana is being implemented in coordination with various departments including Department of Agriculture, Panchayat and Rural Development, Cooperative Department under Suraji Gaon Scheme. Under the Godhan Nyay Yojana, 1 lakh 18 thousand 611 quintal vermi compost has been produced in Gothan till March 15, out of which 83 thousand 900 quintal vermi compost has also been sold. Through the Godhan Nyay Yojana, 1 lakh 62 thousand 497 cattle rearers of the state are benefiting. Which includes 70 thousand 299 landless villagers. 44.55 percent of the beneficiaries of the Godhan Nyaya Yojana are women. So far 44 lakh quintals of cow dung have been purchased from cattle rearers under the Godhan Nyay Yojana. Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel believes that the Godhan Nyay Yojana will promote organic farming in the state, will prevent the grazing of crops, improve the quality of agricultural products and provide a good source of income to the villagers.
