Self-supporting women are taking the responsibility of taking care of the animals of Gothans
Animal enterprise friends are playing an important role in the protection of rural economy and animal wealth.

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has started Suraji Gaon Yojana in the state with a visionary thinking. Gothans were built under the scheme and now these Gothans have taken the form of Mahatma Gandhi Rural Industrial Park i.e. Ripa. Gothans in Chhattisgarh have become a powerful medium for the protection of livestock and economic benefits from them. Not only people are getting employment from Gothans, but the health problems of animals have also come down.
In case of sick animals in Gothans and nearby areas, the villagers used to have a dilemma whether to take them to the Government Animal Hospital or elsewhere for treatment. Due to the stay of animals in Gothans, they get medical facilities here and there are no specialist doctors but only rural women have been able to do this work.

In Sarguja district, there is one such animal entrepreneur Sakhi named Roopa who first increased her efficiency by joining Gauthan and now she is earning economically by doing the work of minor diseases, vaccination, deworming, artificial insemination, food and drink etc. have become stronger than Rupa has been doing this work for the last two years and now hundreds of women like her are becoming financially empowered by becoming animal entrepreneur friends. For this work, well organized dress, basic kit equipment and necessary medicines have been made available to the animal entrepreneur friends.
Roopa is associated with Aarti self-help group in Surguja district. She also does duty in veterinary camps in Gothans. Vaccination, deworming, treatment of sick animals etc. Rupa gets 7 rupees per vaccination and from this work, Roopa earns 5-6 thousand rupees per month.
‘125 animal entrepreneurs are working in Surguja district’
A total of 555 animal friends are working in Surguja district, out of which 125 animal friends are trained in collaboration with Veterinary Department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ambirkapur for better treatment of animals in rural areas. For this, women were made Animal Entrepreneur Sakhi. They were given initial training of 10 days by the Veterinary Department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra. This was followed by one month field exposure and necessary practical training. In the last phase, after two days of training, these animal friends were attached in the field on the basis of grading obtained in the test, after which these animal friends are being called animal entrepreneur friends.
‘Treatment of 25 thousand animals in a financial year in the Gauthans of the district’
The number of sanctioned Gauthans in Surguja district is 326, out of which the construction of 316 has been completed. In the financial year 2022-23, 1066 veterinary camps were organized in Gauthans. In this, 5 thousand 684 artificial insemination, 1 thousand 862 cotton production, 6 thousand 154 castration, 23 thousand 277 vaccinations, treatment of 25 thousand 213 animals, deworming to 3 thousand animals have been done.
