According to the Indian Forest Survey Report (ISFR) 2023, Chhattisgarh has ranked first in the country in combined forest and tree cover growth. According to the Indian Forest Survey Report, the total forest cover area of Chhattisgarh is 55,812 square kilometers.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai said that this important achievement is the result of continuous conservation and dedicated efforts of the Forest and Climate Change Department. It also reflects the awareness of the people of the state and their responsibility towards the environment, which is contributing to making Chhattisgarh green and prosperous.
This achievement is the result of the participation of local communities and successful implementation of conservation programs.
It is noteworthy that compared to the year 2021, the country’s forest and tree cover has increased by 1445 sq km, which includes an increase of 156 sq km in forest cover and 1289 sq km in tree cover. The top four states showing maximum increase in forest and tree cover are Chhattisgarh (684 sq km), Uttar Pradesh (559 sq km), Odisha (559 sq km) and Rajasthan (394 sq km).
