Farmers’ interest in organic farming increased

With the aim of promoting organic farming in the state and reducing the dependence on chemical fertilizers and the cost of agriculture, farmers have now started using vermi compost on a large scale. Under Godhan Nyay Yojana, farmers of the state have started using vermicompost and super compost manure made from cow dung purchased in Gauthans. In the current Kharif season, through cooperative societies, more than 3.5 lakh farmers of the state have lifted more than 8 lakh 60 thousand 875 quintals of vermi compost and super compost, out of which 6 lakh 16 thousand 871 quintals of vermi compost have been lifted. This has been lifted by the farmers in lieu of agricultural loans from cooperative societies.
It is worth mentioning here that under Godhan Nyay Yojana, vermicompost and super compost manure is being manufactured on a large scale by purchasing cow dung at Rs.2 a kg in Gauthans. So far, 17 lakh 57 thousand quintals of vermi compost and more than 5 lakh 28 thousand 174 quintals of super compost manure have been prepared by women self-help groups, out of which more than 15 lakh quintals of vermi compost and 3 lakh 64 thousand quintals have been prepared. More than Super Compost has been sold.
