Raipur, 08 February 2022. On the special initiative of Village Industries Minister Guru Rudra Kumar, Handloom Division is innovating and manufacturing Chhattisgarhi State Gamcha. Displaying the traditional cultural heritage of the state of Chhattisgarh, this State Gamcha has been prepared on the basis of the approved design by the Department of Culture. This gamchha is being made by weavers and craftsmen in tussar silk and cotton. In the design of Rajkiya Gamchha, the farmer plowing the paddy and plowing paddy has been displayed to represent the famous state of Chhattisgarh as a bowl of rice. To show the tribal culture of the state, the tribal group dance and the temple have also been carved in the pot. The famous gaur crown of Bastar, the state forest buffalo and the state bird Pahari Maina have also been inscribed in the pot, along with the impression of the traditional mural painting of Sarguja is also inscribed in the border of the pot.
It is worth mentioning that the weaver of Tassar Silk Gamchha has used Filacher Silk Yarn in the warp and Dabha Tasar Yarn and Ghincha Yarn in the weft. The width of the pot is 24 inches and the length is 84 inches. The weaving of this tussar silk gamchha is done by the weavers of Seoni Champa. After weaving the pot, the tattoo print has been engraved in it by the female tattoo artists of Sarguja. The price of this pot has been fixed at Rs 1534 (inclusive of GST). Similarly, cotton gamchha is also given to the state’s Balod, Durg, Made through weaving on hand looms by the weavers of Rajnandgaon district. 2/40 count cotton yarn has been used in the warp of this pot and 20 count cotton yarn has been used in the weft. After weaving the pot, the designs have been made from screen print, displaying the tradition of the state. Screen print work is being done by the printing unit of Hyderabad contracted with Chhattisgarh State Handloom Association. The width of this pot is 24 inches and the length is 84 inches. The price of this pot has been fixed at Rs 239 (inclusive of GST). With the recognition of these pots as a memento of the state, 300 weavers will get employment through weaving and 100 women tattoo craftsmen will get employment throughout the year.
