Under the Garuva component of Suraji Gaon Yojna, one of the flagship schemes of the Government of Chhattisgarh, out of 7777 Gauthans built and actively operated in the state, 2029 Gauthans have become self-supporting. The self-supporting Gauthans have started using the funds available with themselves for the manufacture of vermi compost from the purchase of cow dung. Raigad district has maximum 249 Gauthans self-supporting. In second number, 141 Gauthans in Kabirdham district and 131 in Mahasamund district have become self-supporting.
According to the information received from the Agriculture Department, 25 in Gariaband district, 66 in Dhamtari, 84 in Balobaazar and 75 in Raipur district, 86 in Durg, 57 in Balod, 58 in Bemetara, 101 in Rajnandgaon district, 103 in Korba, Gaurela-Pendra- 25 in Marwahi, 90 in Janjgir-Champa, 76 in Bilaspur, 60 in Mungeli, 73 in Korea, 70 in Jashpur, 55 in Balrampur, 65 in Surguja, 53 in Surajpur, 105 in Kanker, 21 in Kondagaon, 35 in Dantewada, 6 in Narayanpur, 35 in Bastar, 22 in Bijapur and 52 in Sukma district have become self-supporting.
It is worth mentioning that in order to promote the conservation and promotion of livestock in the state, the state government has so far approved the construction of Gauthan in 10569 villages. Out of which the construction of 7777 Gauthans has been completed and other income-oriented activities including purchase of cow dung, manufacture of vermi compost are being conducted. At present, 2420 Gauthanas are being rapidly constructed, the work of construction of remaining 372 Gauthanas is yet to be started. Livestock care in Gauthans, Arrangements for fodder, water and treatment have been ensured. On the appeal of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, para donation is being done by the farmers for the fodder of livestock. So far, more than 4 lakh 83 thousand quintals have been collected through donation in Para Gauthans. The value of which is around Rs. 9 crore 66 lakh at the rate of Rs. 200 per quintal. Apart from this, planting of hybrid Napier grass and sowing of other fodder has also been done to arrange green fodder for animals in Gauthans.
