Indore, 30March2023. A big accident took place on Ram Navami in Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal temple of Indore. During the Havan here, 14 people died due to the collapse of the roof of the underground stepwell. More than 30 people had fallen in the stepwell. It is 40 feet deep. Police pulled people out of the well with the help of local people with the help of ropes. 11 bodies were pulled out of the well, while 3 people died during treatment in the hospital.
The stepwell was filled with 4 to 5 feet of water. The municipal corporation extracted water with the help of three pumps. After which the rescue started again. Divers were lowered into the well with oxygen. NDRF team has also reached the spot. It was told that the stepwell is very deep, in which there is a lot of swamp. It is feared that some people are still buried here. The local people have also told about the missing of some people. Army team has also been called from Mhow for rescue.
The accident took place during Havan at Sneh Nagar located on Sapna Sangeeta Road. According to eyewitnesses, people were sitting on the terrace of the stepwell. Its roof broke under the weight and people fell down. This temple is about 60 years old. The collector has said to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand each to the injured. The government will provide treatment to the injured. It has also been announced to give compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand each to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
