What kind of reshuffle is this, why such a decision 4 months before the elections? ,
From time to time, the high command sees which leader is useful where and assigns duty there. My term was over, it was three years and I worked for an additional year and in the meantime worked to strengthen the organization.
For the first time we were successful in organizing the national convention in Chhattisgarh. Made 19.5 lakh memberships, won all five by-elections, won 14 municipal corporations and won every election. Now Bastar’s energetic MP Deepak Baij has been handed over the reins of the State Congress Committee. Together, all the workers will work with solidarity. And will be successful in forming the government in 2023.
Did you come to know about this decision earlier? ,
Yesterday the high command had told that you are being removed from the post of state president and given another responsibility. Although what is the second responsibility, it was not told. But today I came to know that I will get a chance to work in the cabinet, government.
I worked in the organization for 4 years, now I have got the opportunity to serve the public in the government as well. I thank Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, State Incharge Kumari Selja, National President Mallikarjun Kharge and all senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi.
There is four months to the election, and how will you work now? ,
Even 1 or 2 days is enough for us, there are many possibilities if we do work like work. We will try to make our mark even in the tenure of 4 months.
You were made a minister to balance power and organization? ,
There is no friction. Had there been a tussle, we would not have won any election. We have worked continuously with coordination in power and organization. That’s why we were able to win all the elections. The achievements, policies and schemes of CM Bhupesh Baghel’s government were also taken to the masses through the workers. This is a big achievement for us.
What would you say about your journey from Shikshakarmi till now? ,
I had entered Congress in 1990 itself. When I was in class 12, I joined the Congress party under the tutelage of Shaheed Mahendra Karma, and since then we have been working continuously. We will take challenges as challenges and will be successful in everything.
Can Dhanendra Sahu be given the responsibility of ministerial post? ,
I have no knowledge of this.
Now know who is Markam
Mohan Markam was born on 15 September 1967 in Tendmunda village of Kondagaon district in a farming family. His father Bhikharai Markam was a farmer. Markam also worked as Shikshakarmi class 1 and Shikshakarmi class 2 as a government service. Apart from this, he also worked for a few days as Development Officer in Life Insurance Corporation of India and Senior Agency Manager in State Bank of India Life. But he left the job to enter politics.
Political journey so far..
Took primary membership of Congress in 1990 in the presence of Mahendra Karma.
Also claimed ticket from Congress party in 1993, 1998, 2003 assembly elections. But didn’t get the ticket.
In 2008, Markam was fielded for the first time from Kondagaon seat in front of Lata Usendi. In which he had to face defeat by 2771 votes.
In the 2013 elections, the party fielded him again. Markam had to face defeat in this election also.
In the 2018 assembly elections, the party once again showed confidence in Mohan Markam and this time he defeated BJP’s Lata Usendi with a huge margin.
After the bumper victory in 2018, the Congress made the then PCC president Bhupesh Baghel the chief minister, and then Mohan Markam got the responsibility of the state president.
