Bhopal : Monday, August 31, 2020. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while holding discussions with senior officers of various departments today gave necessary instructions through video conference regarding normalization of public life affected by last week’s heavy rains. Chief Minister Chouhan sought information from the officers of Revenue, Water Resources, Health, Narmada Valley Development, Urban Administration, Energy, Public Health Engineering, Agriculture, Public Works and Home Department about the efforts to provide relief to the flood affected people. Chief Minister Chouhan said that the administration should make dedicated efforts to address the problems of common man by standing with them in this hour of catastrophe. Chief Minister Chouhan instructed the officers that a report should be prepared soon after assessing the damage caused to crops, roads, water resources, houses etc. The information pertaining to damage caused by heavy rains in the state will be sent to the Government of India, he added.
Deliberates with MP Union Minister Tomar
Chief Minister Chouhan mentioned that the Union Minister for Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar was apprised of the damage caused to the crops in the state. Apart from this, he has also been urged for additional assistance to Madhya Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in rural areas.
Instruction for initial assessment of damage
Chief Minister Chouhan stated that flood and heavy incessant rainfall has also caused damage to the water resources. In order to protect the health of common man, pure potable water should be supplied on priority. He said that Public Health Engineering department has to accomplish this task with promptness. He also enquired about the condition of agricultural crops. He directed to make elaborate assessment of damage to soybean crop. Along with this, he directed Revenue department to assess damage to properties and Energy department to resolve the complaints, concerning out of order transformers.
Administration to remain vigilant
Chief Minister Chouhan said that constant vigilance is needed. He instructed Water Resources department and Narmada Valley Development to keep a close watch on the condition of lakes and reservoirs and to inform people in time regarding opening of gates of dams.He issued instructions to provide quality food to the people, accommodated in relief camps. Keeping in view the fear of spread of other diseases due to heavy rains, He directed Health department and Public Health Engineering department to take necessary precautionary steps in this regard.
It was informed in the meeting that the water level of Indira Sagar, Omkareshwar Gandhi Sagar reservoir and other reservoirs is lower than before. The water of Narmada river at Sethani Ghat in Hoshangabad is five feet below the danger mark. The water level is constantly decreasing. Work to protect the people, residing in lower settlements has been undertaken promptly. This work is being constantly monitored. The concerned Senior Officers were present at the meeting.
