Korba 26 July 2020. Smiling Phulwari Bai Kanwar in a pink sari, big golden rings on both sides of her nose and green and red colored nuggets on them…. People who reach the village of Kerwadwari in Vananchal of Phulwari Kartala development block are unknowingly attracted to themselves. Phulwari Bai has got the right to own the land due to the Forest Rights Recognition Letter (Patta), because of the continuous cultivation of forest land under the foothills of the Peplarani mountain. A lease has brought such a change in the life of Phulwari and her family that she has become an inspiration to people. By cultivating fine paddy on hard land on lease land, Phulwari has decorated her mouth with two attractive gold rings with happiness, prosperity and worry-free smile. The Phulwari Bai has a land area of about three and a half acres, including about one acre from the Forest Rights Certificate. On this farm, Phulwari has planted thin paddy with HMT ropa method in the current kharif season. Phulwari, who previously worked in the fields of others, has employed ten people from the village on daily wages to plant their fields.

Phulwari Bai, who is famous in the village for his gentle and sociable behavior, tells that his ancestors had been cultivating the fields by clearing the forest in this forest of Kerwadwari for a hundred years. From the father-in-law Shri Dayaram to the husband Shri Mansingh Kanwar, the soil that they have been irrigating for years with their sweat, the fear of losing the soil was always in the minds of Phulwari and his family. Phulwari says that Chhattisgarh government has changed the life of her and many families like her by giving a lease of this forest land. For the last two years Phulwari has been planting thin paddy in this field. This time too, he has planted HMT paddy in the field. Phulwari, which was earlier planted in the fields of others, is now employing other people of the village on daily wages. Due to the grant of forest rights lease, Phulwari and his family have started benefiting from other government schemes. The limit of agricultural credit in the primary cooperative society has increased. The sale of the paddy grown in support price has also become easier with the ownership of the land. Phulwari Bai has three sons. Some time ago, husband Mansingh had a paralysis attack, which is being treated. After completing school education, the three sons are sharing their mother’s hand in farming.

Being emotional, Phulwari says that if the land that has been cultivated for a hundred years does not get the ownership of the land, then the loss of seventy-eighty thousand of the year would continue. The land has become our due to getting the lease, now we also get our sweat earnings on time. With this, there is good help in fulfilling other needs including treatment of children and education of children. Phulwari is also planning to develop three irrigation crops and fencing in its entire field. In addition to paddy in their fields, they are constantly advised by the Department of Agriculture to take advantage of government schemes for the cultivation of urad, moong, sunflower and greens. Phulwari is now thinking of constructing tube wells under the Solar Sujala scheme for irrigation in his field.
