Mr. Ghanshyam and Mr. Sahadev, residents of village Khaija of Baloda, block development of Janjgir-Champa district, got the ownership of forest land held by them for years. Now he is living his life by farming without worry with the whole family. The fear of land eviction is over. The state government gave the forest dwellers their rights. Under the government’s scheme, they have got the forest rights lease for the land held by the rain. There is an atmosphere of happiness in his family after getting the ownership of the land which has been occupied for years.
According to the information received from the Adivasi Development Department, Mr. Ghanshyam told that the income has increased from the cultivation of pulses, oilseeds, vegetables etc. last year. They no longer fear eviction from the land. He has gained respect in the society by getting self-sufficient to get his land leased and working hard on it. Now they are not counted as landless farmers. He said that he has been cultivating that land for years. But they used to be evicted because of the forest land in the government records. On the basis of the eviction papers, the state government has given them forest rights lease and frees them from worry. According to information received from Tribal Development Department, Mr. Sukhdev Giri of village Khaija has got forest rights lease on 0.038 land.
