Bilaspur. Despite the ban on online betting in the state, companies are violating it. A PIL has been filed in the Chhattisgarh High Court regarding the entire matter, which was heard on Monday. Keeping in mind the seriousness of the matter, the court has sought a reply from the Secretary of the Home Department of the State Government. The companies have also been given notice. The case was heard in the division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Kumar Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agarwal. The next hearing of this case has been scheduled for April 4, 2025.
Actually, petitioner Sunil Namdev has filed a PIL through advocate Amrito Das. Advocate General Prafulla N Bharat, Deputy Advocate General Shashank Thakur and advocate Tushar Dhar Diwan, appearing on behalf of the state, presented their case. Petitioner’s advocate Amrito Das presented information to the court that the state of Chhattisgarh bans online betting and as mentioned in paragraph 8.6, the respondent companies are violating the ban imposed in the state of Chhattisgarh. He presented some documents, which include some advertisements regarding the recently ongoing IPL.Taking cognizance of the matter, the bench directed that the matter be filed in the court’s registry and brought on record. Its copy should also be given to the state advocate, who can also answer it. At the same time, the petitioner’s advocate has sought 24 hours to file an additional affidavit. Apart from this, the Chief Justice’s bench has directed the Secretary of the Home Department of Chhattisgarh State to file his personal affidavit in the matter. Along with issuing a notice to the respondent to pay the process fee as per the rules, the state advocate has also been directed to inform them about the pendency of the current petition.
