Raipur. The process of Impella has been completed for the first time in the state. In Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, with the help of Impella, the world’s smallest heart pump, almost 100 percent blocked heart veins have been opened through angioplasty. This hospital has become the first government institution in the country to do so.Dr. According to Smit, Impella is the world’s smallest heart pump, which works to hemodynamically stabilize the body’s vital organs (heart, lungs, kidneys, liver and brain) while opening the blocked heart arteries, thereby helping the patient successfully. Angioplasty can be done. Three lakh patients across the world have been treated with this method and 240 patients across India have been treated with this method. ACI is the first government institute in the state, where treatment has been done with this method. He told that, once installed in the heart, the Impella heart pump is started, which draws blood from the left ventricle and releases it into the aorta. . This active ‘unloading’ of the left ventricle increases blood flow to the brain and other vital organs and protects the kidneys from serious injury while comforting the patients’ heart.
According to the patient’s elder brother, ACI medical social workers Khogendra Sahu and David came forward and helped us like family members. He was very helpful in getting treatment under the Chief Minister Health Assistance Scheme.
The team of doctors who performed the procedure included Dr. Smit Srivastava, Head of the Department of Cardiology, along with Resident Dr. Balwinder Singh, Dr. Anmol Aggarwal, Dr. Prateek Gupta, Cardiac Anesthetist Dr. Tanya Chauda, Senior Technician IP Verma, Jitendra, Khem Singh, Neelima, Nisha and nursing staff included Hemlata Dewangan, Budheshwar Sahu, Digendra.
This is how the procedure was done
Dr. Smit said, with the help of the right leg, reach the right vein of the heart. With great difficulty a passage was made from the origin to the end of the vein using a microcatheter and coronary guard wire. During this time the patient did not face any problem because this pump was working during that time. Since the patient recovered completely after the procedure, the Impala was removed through the leg. Angioplasty was done from the left vein of the heart, the left main artery. With the help of thick wire, the Impella was installed in the heart through the arteries, reaching the patient’s heart from the left side. Once installed the Impella heart pump is turned on. After the procedure, the motor was switched off and pulled out. All this procedure was done in half an hour.
He told, due to heart attack, earlier the blood pumping capacity of the heart was one and a half liter per minute, which became 5 liter per minute with the machine. This was very important. A lot of improvement was seen after the procedure. With the help of this pump, the vital organ remains completely perfused i.e. remains operational during the procedure. The chances of complications occurring within 90 days after the heart procedure are reduced.
