Chhattisgarh: Budget will be more than Rs 1.30 lakh crore, proposals invited from departments, preparations for budget for the year 2024-25 started

Chhattisgarh Budget 2024-25: Preparations for the budget 2024-25 have started in the state. The budget has been discussed in meetings with more than twenty departments. According to departmental officials, the order for a maximum increase of seven percent from the budget of 2023-24 has been received from the government, hence this time the budget will be between Rs 1.30 to 1.35 lakh crore. Besides, information about vacant posts in various departments has also been invited. In such a situation, the indication is clear that after the formation of the new government, the process of recruitment on various posts will speed up. The government has held meetings with more than 20 departments.
The announcements made by Congress-BJP in the manifesto are estimated to cost more than Rs 65 thousand crores.
Chhattisgarh has a debt of more than Rs 80 thousand crore from different banks and finance groups.According to Finance Department officials, apart from the Police Department, provisions are also being made in the budget for vacant posts in other departments. The government has issued instructions to speed up the process of revenue collection to commercial tax, revenue, minerals, transport. Earlier, the Finance Department has instructed all the departments to send budget proposals by 30th November.
Revenue of Rs 11 thousand crore to commercial tax department
Departments that are major contributors to revenue have been instructed to speed up the process of revenue collection. The Commercial Tax Department (State GST) has achieved revenue of Rs 11,900 crore till the month of October, which is 54 percent of the target. The Commercial Tax Department has set a revenue target of Rs 22 thousand crore this year.
More than Rs 65 thousand crore will be spent to fulfill the election promise
According to economic analysts, the announcements made by Congress-BJP in the assembly election manifesto are estimated to cost more than Rs 65 thousand crore. These include paddy purchase, loan waiver of farmers, LPG subsidy, loan waiver of women self-help groups etc. According to the Finance Department, at present Chhattisgarh has a debt of more than Rs 80 thousand crore from different banks and finance groups.
Budget size increased year after year
The state government has so far presented a total budget of Rs 1.21 lakh crore in the financial year 2023-24, which was 17 percent more than the financial year 2022-23. In the year 2014-15, the size of the budget had crossed Rs 50 thousand crore for the first time. Its total size including supplements was Rs 54 thousand 710 crore. This was 24 percent more than 2013-14. In 2018, Dr. Raman Singh had presented the final budget of the BJP government of Rs 83 thousand 179 crore. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel presented his first budget of more than Rs 90 thousand crore in 2019. Its size will be Rs 1 lakh 4 thousand crore in 2022-23 and Rs 1.21 lakh crore in 2023-24, in which a supplementary budget of Rs 6,031 crore was presented.
