During the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, 80 plus voters have been given the facility to vote from home. Now the Election Commission has increased the age limit for Lok Sabha elections to 85 years. For this, instructions have been given to the collectors and returning officers of all the districts. After selecting the names of such voters, they will be provided facilities.
According to Election Commission officials, there are 1 lakh 86 thousand 215 voters above 80 years of age in the state. Out of these, the data of voters aged 85 years and above is being prepared. The number of such voters is more than 64 thousand. Apart from this, the number of voters who are 100 years of age or older in the state is 2 thousand 462.
This was the rule before amendment
The Election Commission of India had done the work of providing relief to disabled and elderly voters for voting in the last elections. Many facilities have been provided to such voters to motivate them to exercise their franchise. Which also included providing the facility to voters above 80 years of age to vote from their homes. This provision has now been amended.
According to the new provision, now only voters above 85 years of age will be given the facility to vote from home. As per the instructions of the Election Commission, they will be given the facility to vote through postal ballot.
Information has to be given ahead of time
Those elderly voters who want to cast their vote at home instead of going to the polling station. The team of the presiding officer will reach the house of such vote. For this, voters have to fill a form before the voting period and indicate that they want to cast their vote at home. This facility is especially effective for voters with mobility impairments.
