As per the case, SECL had issued a tender for hiring of Heavy Earth Moving Machines (HEMM) for Over Burden Removal (OBR) and other related works at Jampali OCM. The tender was allotted to a joint venture of two private construction companies.

It is alleged that the then Colliery Surveyor of Jampali OCM, who is currently the Senior Surveyor, by abusing his position entered into a criminal conspiracy with another accused, who was the owner of a private company and is now dead. Under this conspiracy, the records of the quantity of OBR were manipulated, and on the basis of false records, excess payment of Rs 6,10,26,141 was made to the joint venture companies from SECL.

The CBI today conducted searches at the premises of the accused in this case. The searches are being conducted in District Umaria (Madhya Pradesh) and Raipur (Chhattisgarh). Further investigation is underway in this case, and action may also be taken against other potential accused by the CBI.
