Raipur, July 28, 2023: Positive changes are visible in the lives of the farmers of Chhattisgarh due to the schemes implemented as per the intention of the Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel. Taking advantage of the schemes of the government, the farmers of the state are now showing interest in crops other than paddy. Farmers are getting good yields of summer paddy as well as other crops like wheat, linseed, lentils, moong.
About 70 percent of the population in the state of Chhattisgarh is dependent on agriculture. Since most of the state’s area is rain-fed, there is uncertainty in agricultural income due to seasonal adversity, increase in agricultural inputs. In order to provide adequate investment in agriculture and relief to the farmers in the cost of cultivation, schemes have been started by the state government in the interest of the farmers, by taking advantage of which the farmers are not only getting better production but also becoming financially empowered.
Under this, under the Tarfa scheme run by the Agriculture Department, seeds are being made available to the farmers through grant money and they are being motivated to sow other crops instead of paddy. Apart from paddy, farmers of the district are also earning good income due to good yield of other crops with less water and less cost.
Taking advantage of the scheme, farmer Mr. Rajesh Yadav, a resident of Siltara in Takhatpur block of Bilaspur district, told that he has 1.5 acres of agricultural land. He used to plant paddy crop on his land. Due to this, paddy crops required excessive water in summer. As a result, the yield of paddy was also affected. According to Mr. Rajesh, under the scheme of the state government, through the agriculture department, he got information that instead of paddy, cultivation of other crops like wheat, moong, lentils, maize can be done with less cost and less water.
Wheat seeds were received by Agriculture Department on 50 percent subsidy and Masoor seeds were received for demonstration. Mr. Yadav did mixed sowing of wheat and lentils. There was good yield of crops in less water, due to which good profit was obtained. Seeing the good yield and good income from the scheme, now farmers across the state are getting motivated for mixed farming of this scheme.
