According to the information, Soumya Chaurasia’s advocates have said in the petition presented in the apex court challenging the legal rights of ED proceedings in the court that the petitioner is a woman and has small children. The hearing of the case is going to take a long time, so he should be granted bail. Before this, the High Court had rejected the bail plea of Soumya Chaurasia. Let us tell you that Soumya Chaurasia has been the most powerful officer in the Bhupesh government. State Administrative Service officer Saumya Chaurasia was posted as Deputy Secretary in the CM Secretariat in the Bhupesh Baghel government. In the coal levy case, the Enforcement Directorate had arrested Soumya Chaurasia on 2 December 2022, after which she is continuously detained in Central Jail Raipur.

According to the Enforcement Directorate, a levy of Rs 25 per tonne was collected for coal transportation in Chhattisgarh. But the rules for levy collection were changed by the Bhupesh Baghel government. The mafia took advantage of this, whose kingpin was Suryakant Tiwari. According to ED, Suryakant Tiwari used to get this unlimited power and influence from Saumya Chaurasia, a powerful officer of the Bhupesh Baghel government.

Apart from Soumya Chaurasia, ED had arrested Suryakant Tiwari, coal washery operator Sunil Aggarwal, IAS Sameer Bishnoi, IAS Ranu Sahu and others on different dates in the case. ED alleges that this scam was worth around Rs 500 crore. Movable and immovable properties were acquired from the money received from this levy, many of which are also benami.
