Raipur. Electricity rates have been reduced by the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company for the second consecutive time in this year 2023 due to reduction in VCA. VCA (Variable Cost Adjustment) will be 43 paise per unit in the upcoming electricity bill of April-May. Earlier, for February-March, the VCA was reduced from 1.10 to 78 paise per unit. In this way, the rates of electricity in the state have become cheaper by 67 paise per unit in two times. It is noteworthy that on one hand the State Electricity Regulatory Commission has not increased the electricity tariff this year, on the other hand the VCA charge has also reduced. This will provide adequate relief to the electricity consumers. Variable cost adjustment has been determined during the bi-monthly period of the year 2022-23 i.e. April-May 2023 in compliance with the provisions contained in Clause-93 of Regulation 2021 in accordance with the multi-year tariff principles notified by the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission. Under which the VCA charge has been fixed at 43 paise per unit. It was 78 paise in the February-March 23 bill and 1.10 paise per unit in the December 22-January 23 bill. In this way, the rates of electricity have decreased by 67 paise per unit in two times. The VCA charge is fixed on the basis of the cost of electricity purchased by the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company. Electricity purchased from Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company, a power plant of Chhattisgarh government, has been received at a cheaper rate, in which compared to the cost fixed by the commission, Rs 34.93 crore and Rs 10.13 crore cheaper electricity has been received from water and solar sources, while the electricity regulator from NTPC 288 crore more than the rate approved by the commission.

Coal and oil are required mainly in the form of fuel in power houses for power generation. The price of these two major components keeps on increasing and decreasing every two months according to the market value.
