Bemetra: Start of new crop Makhana cultivation in Agricultural College and Research Center, Bemetara

Bemetara 01 January 2021. Demonstration of Makhana cultivation has been held for the first time at Dholia Bemetra, Agricultural College and Research Center. Such experimental demonstration is being done in the district for the first time. It is a very useful crop for the Duban and marsh areas, this crop is popular as a super food nowadays. Due to its nutritional properties, it is highly sought after and useful. Along with this, due to the high market price of Makhane, more money can be earned from its cultivation from waste land. The plant of Makhana increases with the level of water. Its leaves are spread over the water and as soon as the process of receding, the water starts to fall on the land filled with land. Apart from the pond, waterlogged land is also suitable for its cultivation throughout the year. Farmers can also use their common fields to produce makhana but during the period of cultivation, the said field should have 6 to 9 inches of water stored.
               Makhana cultivation will prove to be a boon for farmers as the production of its cultivation is 10 to 12 quintals per acre. It costs 20 to 25 thousand rupees per acre while income of 60 to 80 thousand rupees. 15 to 40 kg of manure per acre is required with at least 4 feet of water requirement. The period from March to August is suitable for Makhana cultivation. The successful demonstration of this crop has been planted in the agricultural college Dholia. This Chief Scientist of Crop Agricultural Science Center, Dhamtari, Shri S.S. Has been supplied by Chandravanshi and is being looked after. If this crop succeeds in Bemetara district, it will prove to be a boon for the marshes and the unused land. Demonstration of aquatic crops like Singhada, Kamalakkari etc. have also been put up in the college. Interested farmers can contact the agriculture college for information related to farming.
