 Women belonging to self-help groups in Surguja are now joining advanced farming techniques by moving beyond traditional farming. Modern facilities like drip irrigation and mulching have been provided by the Horticulture and Agriculture Department to connect them with improved horticulture in Gauthans.
Earlier cultivation of sweet potato, groundnut and jimmikand and now production of tomato, gourd, radish, bitter gourd and potato has opened a new door not only for Gauthan but also for own livelihood. Women of Self Help Groups are learning modern horticulture by joining the Horticulture Department in 14 model Gauthans of the district. Under the supervision of the district administration, women are now producing vegetables by using modern techniques like drip irrigation and mulching under the guidance of technical officers of Horticulture Department, Agriculture Department and Biotech Lab.
