Raigarh. Hundreds of women surrounded the Kotra Road police station of Raigarh district headquarters of Chhattisgarh and started a ruckus. The women alleged that they were beaten up by the liquor dealers when they complained about the illegal liquor business in their area. Angered by the police not taking any action despite complaining about this, they sat in front of the police station and created a ruckus. Two days ago, in the same case, the liquor mafia beat up the son of the female Sarpanch of the area and after that, they also beat up the female Sarpanch while pushing and shoving her. Now this matter has taken a political turn, as Kharsia MLA and former minis
Hundreds of women protesting by sitting on the road in front of Kotra Road police station alleged that some people were illegally selling Mahua liquor in Kosampali, Bermuda and other nearby areas. They had complained about this matter in the police station, due to which the liquor smuggler got angry and beat up the woman Sarpanch’s son. Despite complaining about this matter, no action was taken against the liquor smuggler and today hundreds of women from more than half a dozen villages surrounded the Kotra Road police station and started a road blockade by sitting on the road. The angry women have also accused the police team of Kotra Road police station of colluding with the liquor smugglers.
Ansuiyaan Uraav, Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Kosampali, told that before Chhath Puja, many women of the village had complained to her about the illegal Mahua liquor being sold in the village. Then they united and submitted a memorandum to Kotra Road Police Station to stop the sale of illegal liquor in the village. Then the police assured them of taking action after Chhath Puja. After this, she complained about this matter by reaching the SP office, after which on the instructions of the Superintendent of Police, the police team reached the spot at around 4 pm on the same day and conducted a raid and seized the liquor. After this, the women of 18 committees of the village went from house to house to check whether liquor was being made again despite this action. Then the people doing the liquor business abused her and threatened to implicate her in a false case if she came home again. The woman Sarpanch also told that she was beaten up fiercely while threatening to kill her son. Despite complaining about this, she has reached the police station today, angry at the police not taking any action.
In this case, former minister and Kharsia MLA Umesh Patel said that this morning he got information through phone that women of Kosampali are being mistreated in the police station. Yesterday evening, the women who came to lodge a report were told by the TI here that an FIR has been lodged against them. Due to this, a large number of women have reached the police station today and these women have submitted a memorandum in the SP office as well as the police station and the way liquor is being sold in the village, due to which the children of the village are getting spoiled. Umesh Patel said that the women had alleged that the Sarpanch’s son was beaten up by a liquor businessman and the police is giving protection to the accused. Ever since the BJP government has been formed in the state, the attitude of the police towards the public is very wrong. The way liquor mafias are being given protection will not be tolerated. The way women are organized in the village, efforts are being made to break them and they are being intimidated.
If the police takes one-sided action in this case, we will also take further action. Former Raigarh MLA Prakash Nayak said that women of Kosampali village have reached here demanding a liquor ban. We all are seeing that ever since the BJP government has come, the liquor smuggling has increased. These women had first complained to the Kotra Road police station as well as the SP office, after which a team from the police station reached the village. After this complaint, the liquor smuggler attacked the female sarpanch, due to which she was injured. Overall, the accused are being given protection in the BJP government.
However, the way hundreds of women have surrounded Kotra Road police station and questioned the police action on the continuous sale of country liquor by liquor mafia in the areas around Kharsia assembly constituency, it seems that the liquor mafia is continuously running its business under police protection, but now Congress has also entered the issue, due to which a political atmosphere is being created.
ter Umesh Patel reached among the women and reprimanded the police.
