Raipur, 06 November 2020. Women groups, who have been steadfastly combating the circumstances of lockdown, have sought new options from cow dung to raise their income. No one would have thought of making so much better use of cow dung, which these rural women have done. In the remote tribal district of Narayanpur in the state, women of Mahima Sanitation Group have prepared the lamps of ecofriendly cow dung by lighting the houses in Deepawali. These candles can also be used as compost after putting them in pots. A large number of people bought these diyas as soon as they started stalling at the collectorate selling dung made from cow dung.
The women of the committee said that apart from diyas, they are also involved in the work of making wood of flowerpot, manure and cow dung. So far they have prepared 15 thousand diyas, which will be sold in the markets. The needy can be helped by purchasing Deepawali material from local small vendors.
The Suraji Gaon Yojana and Godhan Nyaya Yojana of the Government of Chhattisgarh have also helped women a lot. With the employment of villagers and women in the village, their income is increasing. The women’s groups associated with Gothan have now started making large scale production of vermicompost as well as other products from cow dung and earning income by selling it. Due to the Godhan Nyaya Yojana, the arrival of cow dung has increased in Gowthan. The benefit of this is also being extended to the cowherds, farmers and villagers. All these items made with purity from cow dung are useful for worship. Many women from the municipality and villages are engaged in this work. They have now slowly started their market penetration.
