Blood donation camp should be organized keeping in mind the physical distancing due to Covid 19.

Singhdev, Cabinet Minister, Public Health and Family Welfare Department, on the occasion of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on October 1, has encouraged all government and non-government organizations in the state to donate more and more blood by encouraging voluntary blood donation.

The utility of blood bank is of paramount importance in keeping and emergency services such as delivery, accident etc. and to maintain the availability of blood to the hemoglobinopathy patients .
In the webinar, Dr. Arvind Neral, Head of Department, Department of Pathology, Medical College, Raipur, explained why blood donation is necessary and there is no harm in our body. To donate blood, any healthy person who is in the age group of 18 to 65 years and who is at least 45 kg in weight and whose hemoglobin is more than 12.5 grams, can donate blood. While mentioning many misconceptions related to blood donation, he said that donating blood does not cause weakness. A lean healthy person can also donate blood. Even women can donate blood which is healthy and whose weight is more than 45 kg and age between 18 and 65 years. He said that every healthy man / woman has 4 to 6 liters of blood in his body, which according to our weight is 76 ml in men. And 66 ml in women. Blood is available per kilogram. Only 50ml is used for everyday work. Only blood is needed per kilogram. That is why the extra blood that is in the body is taken in blood donation. There is no weakness of any kind.
On the basis of the total population of the state, 2.55 crore, 01 percent of the blood is required, ie 2.55 lakh units per year which is to be met through government and non-government blood banks. At present, there are total 94 blood banks in the state, out of which 31 government hospitals run blood banks and 63 non-government blood banks. A total of 231054 blood collection was done by blood banks in the year 2019-20. A total of 67543 units of blood was collected by blood banks from the year 2020-21 (April to August). Information was given about the organization of safe blood donation camp and maintenance of blood in the blood bank by the additional project operator.
