Case of husbands taking oath instead of women panchs: Congress complained to the election officer, said- legal action should be taken against the culprits

Kabirdham . The issue of husbands taking oath instead of women panchs in Kawardha district of Chhattisgarh is now gaining momentum. Mahila Congress has submitted a memorandum to the Kawardha District Election Officer and demanded legal action in this matter. They have warned of a nationwide movement if the demands are not met.  

The delegation that handed over the memorandum to the district electoral officer included former Khujji MLA Chhanni Sahu, former Pandaria MLA Mamta Chandrakar, All India Mahila Congress national observer and Bihar in-charge Preeti Upadhyay Shukla and Mayuri Singh

All India Mahila Congress made these demands:-

1. There should be a high level investigation into this incident and appropriate legal action should be taken against the culprits. 

2. Women public representatives should be allowed to discharge their responsibilities freely, so that they are not under any kind of social pressure. 

3. The Election Commission and the administration should issue necessary guidelines to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. 

4. To stop such incidents, a strict policy should be made in the country so that women are not deprived of their rights.

It is noteworthy that due to the negligence of the secretary of the Gram Panchayat Parswara of Pandaria block, in the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected Sarpanch and Panch, their husbands were sworn in instead of 6 female Panchs. Local people and women Panchayat representatives had strongly criticized this incident. Women Panchs had said that this is not only a violation of their rights, but it is also an attempt to weaken the role of women in the society.
