Raipur: Transport Secretary held a virtual meeting on traffic problems caused by e-rickshaws and autos and their solutions

Discussion on measures for monitoring, regulation and control of e-rickshaws and autos for smooth and systematic traffic

A virtual meeting was held today in the Ministry under the chairmanship of Transport Secretary cum Commissioner Shri S. Prakash with the officials of the divisional headquarters Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Ambikapur and Jagdalpur district administration on issues related to traffic problems caused by e-rickshaws and autos and their solutions. Additional Transport Commissioner Shri D. Ravishankar was also present in the meeting.

In view of the continuous increase in the number of e-rickshaws and autos, measures to ensure smooth and systematic traffic were discussed in the meeting. In the meeting it was told that the number of e-rickshaws (goods and passenger) registered in the district wise transport offices are Raipur 13374, Bilaspur 4493, Durg 4038, Ambikapur 1311, Jagdalpur 41 respectively, similarly the number of registered autos (goods and passenger) is Raipur 20306, Bilaspur 14867, Durg 9602, Ambikapur 4429, Jagdalpur 3431 respectively, this number is continuously increasing. The problem of controlling them without monitoring and regulation was discussed.

Raipur district administration made a zone-wise plan

In the meeting, the zone-wise plan made by Raipur district administration for smooth and systematic operation of e-rickshaws and autos was also discussed in detail. Raipur district administration has made a plan by dividing Raipur city into 05 zones.

Discussion on the Acts and Rules prevalent in the Centre and States for e-rickshaws

In the meeting, the Acts and rules prevalent in the Centre and the states for e-rickshaws were also discussed in detail. Apart from this, the powers given to the state government and the district administration were discussed in detail. Information was sought from the officials of the districts present about the situations arising due to e-rickshaws and autos in their districts respectively.

Suggestions sought to resolve the problem

In the meeting, it was said to send any kind of proposal, suggestion for continuous increase in e-rickshaw and auto registration and solution of the problem to the State Road Safety Committee or Transport Department through the District Road Safety Committee or District Administration.
