Gariaband. Jitendra Manjhi, the younger son of former Bindranawagarh MLA Charan Singh Manjhi, has filed nomination for the post of Sarpanch from his home village panchayat Girshul. But this nomination has become controversial. Another Sarpanch candidate and advocate Kanhaiya Manjhi filed a claim-objection against him, alleging that during Jitendra’s wife Tiroja Manjhi’s tenure as Sarpanch (2010-2015), the Panchayat had an outstanding amount of Rs 2.71 lakh, which had not been deposited till now.
Let us tell you that Kanhaiya Manjhi has alleged that despite the dues, Jitendra Manjhi contested the Panchayat elections twice in a row and he was issued a no dues certificate. This time advocate Kanhaiya Manjhi lodged an objection in the election process, due to which the matter came to light. As soon as the objection was lodged, Rs 2.71 lakh was deposited in the Panchayat account at 3 pm. However, Kanhaiya Manjhi alleged that according to the Panchayati Raj Act, 12% interest should have been added on the outstanding amount, but only the principal amount was deposited.
The objection was accepted after the intervention of the collector
Regarding this dispute, Kanhaiya Manjhi’s proposer Bhoj Singh reached the election office at 1 pm and tried to register a written objection. But the election officer refused to take it citing the time was over. After this, Kanhaiya Manjhi contacted Collector Deepak Agarwal over phone and also took guidance from State Election Commission Secretary Sarveshwar Bhure. After the intervention of senior officials, the objection was finally registered.
