It is noteworthy that a case of bird flu (avian influenza) has been confirmed in the government poultry farm located in Raigarh district of the state. After the sudden death of a large number of birds in the poultry farm on 30 January 2025, a team of veterinarians was formed. After investigation, the National High Security Animal Disease Institute, Bhopal has confirmed the bird flu virus on 31 January 2025.

On the instructions of the Director of Veterinary Services, to prevent bird flu, an area of ​​1 km of the affected poultry farm in Raigarh district has been declared as infected zone and poultry, eggs, feed and other materials have been destroyed. The area of ​​1 to 10 km of the affected area has been declared as surveillance zone and poultry and egg shops have been closed and sero surveillance work has been started. The District Administration of Raigarh has also given instructions to give compensation to poultry farmers at the rates fixed by the Government of India. The movement of poultry products from the infected zone to the Raigarh poultry farm has been banned. The officials of the Veterinary Department have also been asked to use personal protection equipment kits.

The Director Veterinary Services has appealed to the general public not to panic as all necessary action has been taken in the infected area. Poultry products can be consumed hygienically and carefully as they are rich in nutrition and help in overcoming malnutrition. He said that it has also been ensured that no cases of bird flu have been reported in other parts of the state. Avian influenza is a deadly infectious disease that spreads among birds. However, till now no case of infection of this virus in humans has been seen in India. Still, all people need to be cautious about the symptoms of the virus and the risk of infection.
