Raipur. Providing basic facilities like pure drinking water to every citizen of the state is considered the primary responsibility of the government. At the time of its formation, people in the remote areas of Chhattisgarh used to survive by drinking water from ponds, rivers and crevices, due to which there was a risk of many diseases. After the formation of the state, different governments tried to improve this situation, but currently, under the leadership of the Chief Minister of the state Vishnudev Sai, special emphasis is being laid on providing pure drinking water to every citizen. Jal Jeevan Mission is being operated to provide pure drinking water, due to which the picture of the remote areas of the state has started changing.
The Vishnudev Sai government of Chhattisgarh keeps a close watch on all the problems that the common people have to face every day… This is the reason why prosperity has started spreading in the state in the last one year.. Many successful efforts have also been made in India for water conservation and its proper management.. One of the most important and effective schemes among these is Jal Jeevan Mission which was started by the central government in 2019.. This mission is running with the aim of providing tap water to every household in rural India.. The society in which there is a shortage of water, its effect is also visible on development… The success of Jal Jeevan Mission is bringing a big change in the lives of the women of Chhattisgarh.. The state of Chhattisgarh, which is a land rich in natural resources and tribal communities, has become an important center of this mission.. Jal Jeevan Mission is not just a scheme, but a movement which is proving to be a milestone in the development of rural India.. Under the direction of the state’s Sai government, the lives of women are being empowered and made respectable through this mission in Chhattisgarh.. The problem, which was once their biggest challenge, has now become their growth story.
Under Jal Jeevan Mission, many projects are being run in Chhattisgarh, which are directly benefiting women… The objective of Jal Jeevan Mission is to supply safe and potable water to every household in the rural areas of the country… This mission, which is realizing the dream of “Water for every home”, is not only solving the problem of water but is also solving the economic, social and health related issues of the society.
This mission is very important for the state of Chhattisgarh, where a large part of the rural population resides… In the remote areas of Chhattisgarh, especially in tribal and backward areas, women and girls had to travel long distances to fetch water and both their time and energy were spent in this work… But the truth is that Chhattisgarh is a state which is rich in natural resources and mineral wealth, but there are many parts of the state where availability of water has always remained a challenge… Generally it has been seen that the responsibility of fetching water also falls on the girls, due to which they also miss their studies… Due to the availability of water through taps in the benefited villages under Jal Jeevan Mission, girls are getting time to go to school and their future is improving through education… By women, fetching water from a long distance was not only a task of physical labour, but it also had a negative impact on their health, safety, education and other aspects of their life… Jal Jeevan Mission is playing a great role in changing the condition of women… Women who are saved from travelling long distances to fetch water can now do small business, farming or handicraft work She is able to give time to me…this is improving the financial condition of her family.
Earlier, the beneficiary women of Jal Jeevan Mission used to spend a major part of their day fetching water due to lack of water sources and their uneven availability in rural areas. The situation became more serious during summers. Understanding these challenges, Jal Jeevan Mission is presenting a permanent solution.
Due to the use of dirty water, diseases like diarrhea, jaundice and typhoid are common in rural areas, the brunt of which is borne most by women and children. There is a risk of skin diseases due to poor quality drinking water and use of bad water for disposal. Jal Jeevan Mission, which has been successful on the initiative of the state’s Vishnudev Sai government, is reducing this problem very fast… The health of women and children has improved due to the availability of clean and potable water. Under the Har Ghar Nal Yojana, pipelines are being laid in every village and tap connections are being given to every house… Due to the availability of clean water even in remote areas, health related problems are decreasing. Along with this, medical expenses are also being reduced. Through Jal Jeevan Mission, 55 liters of water is being supplied per person every day in every house. Due to easy and adequate access to water at home, women are also getting water for their ‘kitchen garden’ (baadi). For this, they no longer have to spend extra time and labor. The used water is being recycled. Making good use of it, she is irrigating the vegetables grown in her garden. This work of hers is also opening the door to nutrition for the family.
Jal Jeevan Mission is working to give women a new identity in the society.. After this mission, many rural women have become a part of water management and awareness campaign instead of women fetching water.. In Chhattisgarh, women have started participating in the water management committees formed under Jal Jeevan Mission.. These committees take care of the quality and distribution of water in the villages.. This has increased leadership capacity and confidence in women.. Those women, who once used to struggle for water, are now becoming leaders of water management.. This change is not only strengthening their family and community, but is also laying the foundation of a better and self-reliant Chhattisgarh… Jal Jeevan Mission has proved that when water is managed properly, not only water but life also changes.. Under the community awareness campaign, women in villages are being made aware about cleanliness, water conservation and maintaining water quality.. The villages of Chhattisgarh benefited by Jal Jeevan Mission are not tired of expressing gratitude to the head of the state.
Water supply is being done using the water sources available in the villages of Chhattisgarh, such as rivers, waterfalls and ponds. This is also creating local employment. The government also faces many challenges in fully implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission and laying pipelines in some remote and inaccessible areas of Chhattisgarh. The government is making the best use of modern technology and its farsighted thinking for this… It is necessary to ensure the maintenance of water pipelines and tap connections. Villagers are being trained for this. Excessive use of water sources puts them at risk of drying up. Water conservation and rainwater harvesting are being encouraged for this. More than 79 percent of the work of Jal Jeevan Mission to provide tap water to every house in Chhattisgarh has been completed. Drinking water is being supplied through pipelines to 39 lakh 63 thousand 700 houses in the state. Since the launch of the mission, tap connections have been provided to about 36 lakh 44 thousand new houses so far. There are 4142 such villages in the state where 100 percent of the households are covered. Water is reaching homes through taps.
Under Jal Jeevan Mission, more than 77 percent work has been completed in 19 districts. To provide tap water to every household, 98 percent of the mission has been completed in Dhamtari district, 94 percent in Raipur, 89 percent in Rajnandgaon, 88 percent in Janjgir-Champa, 87 percent in Durg and Mungeli, 86 percent in Balod and 85 percent in Gariaband and Sakti. Under the mission, 84 percent work has been completed in Bemetara, 83 percent in Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai and Bastar, 82 percent in Kabirdham and Mahasamund, 81 percent in Raigarh, 79 percent in Kondagaon, 78 percent in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi and more than 77 percent work has been completed in Dantewada and Balodabazar-Bhatapara districts… Villages are facing the problem of saline water, presence of heavy elements in ground water or too low water level. Work is in progress on 71 multi-village schemes for the supply of clean and safe drinking water. Through these, surface (river) water will be supplied for drinking water to more than one million houses in 3234 villages. For the works of Jal Jeevan Mission, the state government has made a provision of Rs 4500 crore as state share in the budget of the current financial year.
Jal Jeevan Mission is playing a big role in improving the lives of not only women but also every section of the society in Chhattisgarh… In future, more widespread effects of this mission will be seen. This will increase the level of empowerment of rural women, reduce expenditure on health services due to availability of clean water, improve the education level of girls, besides maintaining environmental balance through water conservation.
