Governor took a review meeting of private universities

Governor and Chancellor Shri Ramen Deka today reviewed the academic activities of all private universities, implementation of new education policy and other works by holding a review meeting. The Governor directed all universities to pay special attention to innovation, research and startups. He directed the universities to operate in accordance with the norms and rules of the University Grants Commission.
Secretary of Higher Education Department Shri R. Prasanna, Secretary to Governor Shri Yashwant Kumar, Chairman of Chhattisgarh Private University Regulatory Commission Shri Brijesh Mishra, Joint Secretary to Governor Smt. Hina Animesh Netam and Vice Chancellors of all private universities were present in the meeting.
In the meeting, Governor Shri Deka said that private universities have an important role in the field of education. These universities should strictly follow the guidelines of University Grants Commission and the rules of governance. Pay special attention to the quality of education in universities, do not make them an institution of business. He said that they will have to follow the regulations applicable for private universities. He said that the formation of Regulatory Commission for private universities by the Chhattisgarh Government is a very good initiative. The Governor said that Raipur can develop as an education hub, for which everyone’s efforts are necessary.
Shri Deka said that academic calendar should be followed in the interest of students. He gave instructions regarding appointment of regular teachers and appointing only eligible teachers as guides for PhD as per the norms of University Grants Commission. He clearly said that universities not following the norms will not be able to provide PhD. He asked all universities to provide information about the number of PhD degrees awarded till date.
He said that universities should work for skill development of students by coordinating with local and small industries. He also took information about student exchange program. He directed that refresher courses and training should be conducted for teachers so that they remain updated in their subjects so that students are also attracted towards studies and the quality of education can be improved. Along with this, MOU should be signed with other universities for improving the quality of higher education. Universities should also innovate for livelihood. The Governor said that the decisions taken in the meeting should be followed compulsorily and a report should be brought in the next meeting. He said that a review should be done every three months.
Secretary of Higher Education Department Shri R. Prasanna said that there is a need to implement the new education policy in the right manner. The degrees and other documents given to the students should also be uploaded digitally. Include new subjects in research so that the dream of developed India, developed Chhattisgarh can be realised. He said that the state government has made a plan to help private universities in research and innovation.
Chairman of Chhattisgarh Regulatory Commission, Mr. Mishra, who was present in the meeting, drew attention to the deficiencies and other issues found during the inspection of various universities.
In the meeting, Vice Chancellors of various universities gave information on the implementation of National Education Policy 2020 and innovations done by universities in various fields and other points through presentation. Vice Chancellors of
