Tribal families living in forest areas of Chhattisgarh are getting the benefit of Har Ghar Nal Se Jal Yojana launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to provide pure drinking water to the people of the country. Tap water is being supplied to every house in 12 tribal dominated villages of Koriya district.
Mrs. Neeta Pando and several other women of Durgapara village said that everyday we had to go through the forest and rough path to fetch water from Katakhiya Nala, Ketaki Jharia, about 2 km away. As there was no hand pump in the village, we had to work very hard for water, now with tap water available in the houses, this problem has been resolved. They said that many times the family members had to face many kinds of diseases including vomiting and diarrhoea due to Jharia water and had to go to hospital for treatment, now it has become very convenient to get pure water at home. The family members are also healthy.
It is noteworthy that the Korea district administration took a special initiative and prepared a tap water scheme in these tribal dominated areas. Through this tap water scheme, clean and pure drinking water has started being available in more than 1400 houses of Surmi, Dakaipara, Khairi, Sorga, Durgapara, Jagdishpur, Vikrampur, Kanton, Odgi, Harri Dih, Amhar and Khodar.
